Meet the Heart Behind the Healing

Ji-Sun Kim, M.A.

Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

LIC #AMFT142184

Clinical Focus & Approach

Ji-Sun is a bilingual therapist passionate about helping teens, adults, and couples feel seen, heard, and supported in a compassionate and safe space. She specializes in trauma-informed therapy, and provides treatment for anxiety, depression, grief and loss, identity development, relationship issues, life transitions, as well as cultural diversity and spiritual issues. Ji-Sun especially enjoys working with individuals navigating childhood wounds, cultural or intergenerational challenges, and those seeking deeper, more fulfilling connections. She is committed to walking alongside her clients in their healing journey.

Ji-Sun is also passionate about working with individuals in the arts and entertainment industries, who often face unique emotional and creative challenges. Whether it is navigating the instability of freelance work, performance anxiety, creative blocks, or dealing with high-pressure environments, Ji-Sun provides a grounded, supportive space to explore identity, vulnerability, and the tension between self-expression and external expectations. Ji-Sun understands the emotional complexities of being a sensitive, driven, and imaginative person in industries that can be both inspiring and depleting.

Ji-Sun draws from a relational psychodynamic approach to therapy, which is based on the understanding that our early relationships shape how we see ourselves, relate to others, and navigate the world around us. Over time, difficult or painful early experiences can lead to unconscious patterns, emotional defenses, and deep-seated beliefs about worth, trust, and connection. These patterns often show up later in life through anxiety, relationship struggles, low self-esteem, or feeling stuck in the same emotional loops. In therapy, Ji-Sun works collaboratively and compassionately with clients to gently uncover and make sense of these patterns, especially those tied to attachment wounds or relational trauma. By bringing these experiences into awareness, clients can begin to heal and discover new ways of relating to themselves and others.

In addition, Ji-Sun integrates EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help clients heal from trauma and distressing memories by targeting the nervous system and promoting adaptive integration of past experiences. EMDR can be especially effective for those who feel “stuck” in patterns related to anxiety, shame, PTSD, or unresolved grief. She also incorporates AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), a somatically-attuned, emotion-focused model that helps clients access core emotions and tap into their innate capacity for healing, resilience, and transformation.

These modalities support clients in understanding their story on a deeper level, emotionally, cognitively, somatically, and spiritually, leading to a sense of inner coherence, increased self-compassion, and meaningful change.

As a Korean American who lived for many years in Latin America, Ji-Sun brings a culturally sensitive lens to her work and is deeply attuned to how identity, culture, language, and spirituality intersect in her clients’ lives. She is especially passionate about working with individuals from multicultural or immigrant backgrounds, and those who are navigating bicultural identities or multiracial relationships.

For those who desire it, Ji-Sun welcomes spiritual and existential exploration as an integral part of the therapeutic process, whether that’s grounded in the traditions of organized religion, personal spiritual practices such as meditation or prayer, or a more open-ended search for meaning, purpose, and connection in life. She holds space for clients to explore questions of identity, belonging, suffering, and hope in a way that honors their unique background, values, and lived experiences.

Ji-Sun is fluent in Spanish and English, and offers therapy in both languages. She is also able to communicate in conversational Korean. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in a deep respect for each client’s unique story, values, and path to healing.
